Inside the colourful home of Inner West Naturopath Angela Westerman

Last week we sat down with Angela Westerman in her cool as a cucumber Marrickville home. A qualified Naturopath, Herbalist and Nutritionist, Angela’s home is vibrant and friendly and a hub for entertaining family and friends on casual summer evenings.  It’s a home full of pops of colour and family memories.

We love the Westerman’s home.   It’s vaulted ceiling and large skylights bring a sense of space and light whilst vibrant artwork and accessories bring an energy into this family home.

Read on to hear about Angela’s life in the Inner West from work, the community and where, as a Naturopath and mum of three, she finds the best fresh produce in the Inner West.

Tell us about what you do: “I am a qualified Naturopath, Herbalist and Nutritionist.  My consultations involve a full case history, including diet and lifestyle. I see clients young and old with varying health issues and conditions. I believe the body does a very good job of healing itself with the right tools. I want to give my clients as many of these tools as I can – be it through supplements, dietary advice and/or herbal medicines.

I have successfully improved my own thyroid dysfunction using supplements, diet and herbal medicine.”

What do you love the most about the Inner West? “The people and the food.  We have made so many great friends since moving here 14 years ago, it’s a great community. Our kids are always between the neighbour’s houses which is something I am incredibly grateful for – our neighbours are the best!  The food in the Inner West is unbeatable, from cheap and cheerful to hatted restaurants.”

What does a typical weekend in the Inner West look like for you? “Saturdays always start early as both of my daughters play netball at Cintra Park in Concord.  We often meet up with friends for a bite to eat or have people around for afternoon drinks and dinner.  Sundays usually involve the Addison Road Markets and a play at the park.”

Marrickville and surrounds is home to the most amazing providores and fresh food markets, which ones do you love to shop at?

For fresh fruit and vegies: “I love to shop at Addison Road Markets, the produce is fresh and of such great quality and it has a good selection of organic fruit and veg. It’s also very social, we see  half the school community there.

Arcella in Petersham also has great fresh fruit and vegetables and some lovely cheeses and cured meats whilst Alfalfa House, the co-op in Enmore, also has a good selection of organic produce and bulk items like cereals and nuts.”

For cheese: “The Italian in me can’t go past Paesanella. They make fresh ricotta on the premises and you can bring your own colander and container and the ricotta is still warm, so good!!  Their cheese selection in their little cheese room is also amazing as well as their delicious olives. “

Meat, poultry and fish: “Faros Bros, it’s unique to the Inner West and I buy my seafood from there weekly, whilst Feather and Bone do amazing organic meat and bone broth.”

Angela’s favourite places to dine in around the Inner West:

Breakfast “Two Chaps, I can’t go past their hash browns. They are light and fluffy, gluten-free and come with a poached egg and wilted greens and a delicious verde sauce. They also make a mean hot chilli chocolate and their kombucha is delish.”

Lunch: “Pho at Old Thanh Huong on Marrickville Road.”

Family dinner out:  “The Eate in Dulwich Hill, a new discovery which we all love, and also Rosso Antico in Newtown.”

Place for a sweet treat:  “It has to be gelato at Messina or of course Black Star Bakery, even as a Naturopath, balance is key and who doesn’t love a treat every now and then?”

Share with us your favourite fresh food providores around the Inner West.

Hello – I’m wondering if Angela shared who the artist is of the lovely artwork in the first image?
