It’s nearly Father’s Day and if your dad is anything like mine, he needs for nothing. I find the men in my life so hard to buy for!
I’ve spent the past couple of weeks scouring the Inner West for that special something and have discovered some of the Inner West’s coolest things for dad. I’ve “Blake” tested these and he has given each the tick of approval. So here are our top gifts you can source in the Inner West for dad this Father’s day. While you are at it you’ll be supporting someone local, three cheers for that!
1.We may not be the beaches, but locally in Stanmore, Rikki Gilbey of Waw Hand Planes, runs workshops where you and your dad can build hand-planes out of sustainable, recycled and reclaimed materials. There are a couple of workshops set for September and October or you can book a gift voucher on line also. Workshops are held at Nauti Studios in Stanmore.
2. Recently, we featured the creators of Fanfare Prints and their stunning Stanmore home on our blog. It’s apt that, with Father’s Day approaching, we remind you of their stylish sports prints. Yes, that’s right sports and style combined in one. Perfect for the tennis, rugby or AFL supporter in your life, you can get a print you’ll be happy to show off in your home and satisfy that sports nut in your life at the same time. Prints can be tailored to your favourite sport and sporting team.
3. Whether dad has a beard or likes to shave The Mister Brand has totally nailed the art of male grooming and keeping it masculine. Their stuff is handcrafted and the creators are of course Inner Westies!
4. Well we are living in the home of craft beers so this one is a pretty obvious choice for us so why not get creative with it? Spend the day taking dad on a walking tour of the Craft Brewerys, starting at Wayward and ending at Batch with Young Henry’s, Wildflower and Grifter in between. You can get vouchers from most of these places or, put together a beer pack with your favourites from each.
5. If you are after something totally original, then you need to check out Hypmotive Hub, Marrickville, the Inner West’s new hub for creative makers and artists.
We love this ‘Idle Hand’ Steel Sculpture by Adam Graham. It’s a one of a kind. Or perhaps dad needs a wallet, sunglass case or keychain by Bad Quality Goods. All of these and so many more unique gifts are available at Hypmotive Hub.
